I had been using a couple of mesh sink strainers. which ended up with hurting my fingers when cleaning it up. This strainer is not made of mesh. but a thin perforated metal. It is much easier to clean (I hate something gets stuck in perforation!) and deforms less than the former. I also like the fact that I have two extras for less than $10.
